There are many assistive technologies in the marketplace for individuals with vision loss, and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) has several devices that you and your father may wish to explore.

You may also be interested in knowing about Reminder Rosie 2 by smpl Technology. Reminder Rosie 2 is a talking alarm clock that can “speak” reminders of important calendar events, such as appointments and medications. Audio reminders are self-recorded or can be recorded by a family member. The clock will also respond to questions about the date or time of day. This device ranges in price from about $200 to $250 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
