There are a number of devices available on the market that are designed to help people put on their socks. Below are direct links to some products that you may want to explore:
- The Polyethylene Stocking Aid by Drive Medical (at vitalmobility.ca) helps with putting on socks when bending down is difficult. This product costs about $17 to $20(CDN), plus a shipping fee.
- The Terry Cloth Sock Aid by BIOS (at agecomfort.com) can also be used to put on socks. This device, which has a nylon lining allowing the foot to slide more easily, costs about $28(CDN) plus a shipping fee.
- The Long-handled Shoehorn by BIOS (at Lee Valley), which extends to several lengths ranging from 16 to 31”, is useful for putting on shoes from either a standing or sitting position. This product costs about $13 (CDN), plus a shipping fee.
You can also often find many of these products at Walmart Canada and/or Canadian Tire.
These products should be used while sitting down in a sturdy chair or on the bed, especially if balance is an issue.
