When a cane falls to the floor while a user is seated it can be both an inconvenience and a safety hazard for the user and others. Thankfully, there are many simple and affordable options to keep a cane upright and easily accessible while the user is seated. Below we have listed some products you might wish to explore:
Cane attachments:
- Walking Stick Holder by Stick Safe (at Amazon Canada) is a soft and bendable tube that can be twisted to fit any cane, and hang off most chairs and tables. This product costs about $30 to $40 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
- Cane Holder by BIOS (at Relaxacare) is a simple attachment that allows the cane to be suspended from a horizontal surface such as a table or a desk. This product cost about $9 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
- Quadpod Cane Tip by Hugo (at London Drugs) is an attachment that stay permanently attached to bottom of the cane making it a quad cane, and thus allowing the cane to stand independently. This product costs about $25 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
If the individual has a seat they use often then you might also want to consider options that are not attached to the cane.
For example, the Hold-It (at Canadian Tire) can be mounted to a nearby wall or even certain chairs to help hold the cane while the person is seated. This product costs between $10 and $20 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
Or, a weighted umbrella stand can serve as a cane holder; such as the Home Oval Umbrella stand by Yamazaki (at Amazon Canada) which costs about $75 (CDN), plus additional shipping fees.
